Increased precision and speed in dimensional checks of L’Oréal bottles and capsules

The L’Oréal Group, a world leader in the cosmetics industry, faced a challenge in performing complex dimensional checks on its shampoo and skincare bottles and capsules. Using manual tools like callipers was time-consuming and unreliable for intricate measurements, hindering the validation of new packaging and its impact on production line efficiency. To address this, L’Oréal partnered with vendor Hexagon to find a more precise and automated measurement solution.

Hexagon’s solution was the multisensor OPTIV M 3.2.2 machine equipped with a pallet mode and PC-DMIS software. This system automated dimensional inspections and provided expert analysis on criteria like bottle deformation and verticality. The results were a five-fold reduction in inspection time for bottles and a ten-fold reduction for caps. Hexagon’s technology provided more reliable measurements and helped L’Oréal develop deeper packaging expertise to correlate with production line quality.
