Improving ride and handling of formula student car using Adams Car

The Vellore Institute of Technology's student team, Zuura Formula Racing, faced the challenge of improving the ride and handling dynamics of their Formula SAE race car. To compete effectively, they needed to maximize tire traction and minimize undesirable vehicle movements like yaw, pitch, and roll. They turned to vendor Hexagon, utilizing their Adams Car simulation software from MSC Software to address these engineering challenges.

Hexagon's Adams Car solution enabled the team to perform detailed kinematic and dynamic analyses of their vehicle's suspension. By simulating and optimizing the suspension geometry and spring stiffness, the team reduced yaw, pitch, and roll rates, which significantly improved the car's cornering capability and overall stability. This use of simulation from Hexagon also allowed for accurate load prediction, leading to the design of lighter components and a more competitive vehicle for international competition.
