Improving quality control in medical knee joint production

G&G Präzisionstechnik GmbH, a manufacturer of precision parts, partnered with orthopaedic specialist Nonnengässer Orthopedie Technik to address a challenge in medical orthosis production. They were dissatisfied with existing knee joint orthoses for patients with malalignments and sought to develop a new, more effective, and easily adjustable joint. To achieve this, they required highly accurate measurement technology and turned to Hexagon for a solution.

Using Hexagon's portable Absolute Arm equipped with an AS1 laser scanner, G&G was able to perform on-machine measurements and digitize components directly at the production site. This solution from Hexagon enabled the team to quickly analyze and check parts for fit before milling, streamlining the development process. The result was a new, gentler-correcting orthosis that offers better patient acceptance and can be readjusted during therapy, significantly improving productivity and quality control for G&G.
