A Hexagon Case Study
I & G Precision Engineering, an engineering subcontractor, had expanded its use of various CAM software packages over the years, moving away from EDGECAM for most of its CNC machining. This led to longer cycle times and less stable machining processes on their Haas and Mazak machine tools. They sought a solution to improve efficiency and capacity from vendor Hexagon, specifically through its EDGECAM software and support from its Seco Tooling division.
With support from Hexagon's Seco Tooling team, I & G Precision Engineering re-implemented EDGECAM across its entire operation. The solution included using advanced machining strategies like Waveform Roughing, which dramatically increased stepdown depths. This resulted in cycle time savings of up to 40%, a massive reduction in a specific roughing cycle from 30 to 10 minutes, and freed up machine capacity. The stable and efficient processes from Hexagon's EDGECAM have become a vital part of their manufacturing, improving profitability and enabling the company to take on more work.
