How multi-sensor systems minimise measuring times

pretema GmbH, a precision technology company manufacturing electromechanical components, faced a challenge in quality assurance. Their diverse product range, with extremely tight tolerances, required using two separate machines for optical and tactile measurements, a time-consuming and inefficient process. They partnered with Hexagon to find a unified solution.

Hexagon implemented its Optiv Performance multi-sensor measuring system, which combined tactile and optical sensors in a single machine. This integration, powered by standardised PC-DMIS software, eliminated the need to switch between machines. The solution drastically reduced measuring times; for one sensor housing, measurement time was cut by two-thirds, from three hours to just one. This major increase in efficiency allowed pretema to handle a greater number of component variants and keep pace with production demands.
