A Hexagon Case Study
Race-Tec Sealing Ltd, a supplier of high-performance seals for the automotive industry, needed to design a more durable constant velocity (CV) boot that could withstand extreme articulation without stress or deformation. The high cost of physical prototyping made it difficult to iterate designs efficiently. To overcome this, they turned to Hexagon's MSC Software and utilized its Marc solution for nonlinear finite element analysis.
Using Hexagon's Marc software, Race-Tec engineers simulated boot performance under real-world conditions, enabling them to quickly evaluate and optimize designs through 60 iterations. The solution allowed them to radically reduce a boot's height by 82%, from 180 mm to 32 mm, while maintaining stress levels. This resulted in a longer-lasting product less vulnerable to damage and provided Race-Tec with a significant competitive advantage, helping them increase market share in their traditional sectors and successfully enter new ones.
