Preview of the Volker Jochum Case Study

High accuracy combined with flexible applications

The customer, Volker Jochum, a manufacturer of high-complexity injection moulds, sought to maintain its high standards of precision and enable reliable, unmanned machine operation. The challenge was to perform automated tool measurements and fracture checks without leaving interference contours on the work table, which could lead to costly collisions or damage. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor Hexagon and implemented its m&h 35.70 Tool Setter.

The solution from Hexagon was a removable Tool Setter featuring robust infrared data transmission, which uses the same receiver as the machine probes. This design eliminated a permanent obstruction on the work table, sped up setup times, and prevented damage from collisions. The results were enhanced process reliability during unmanned ghost shifts, with all tools being measured accurately for breakage, ensuring no consequential damage occurred and preventing expensive rejects.
