Hexagon and GEOSYSTEMS Solution Allows German Officials to Automatically Download, Process, and Share Terabytes of Data

The State Office of Internal Administration in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, operating through its Geoinformatic Center, faced a challenge managing the immense volume and frequency of geospatial data requests it received. The manual process of downloading, processing, and sharing terabytes of satellite imagery from the Copernicus program was extremely time-consuming and required dedicated, highly-trained personnel. To overcome this data overload, the office sought a cost-effective, automated solution from Hexagon and its partner, GEOSYSTEMS.

Hexagon, through its partner GEOSYSTEMS, implemented an automated end-to-end framework called mySentinel, built using Hexagon's ERDAS IMAGINE and ERDAS APOLLO products. This solution completely automated the downloading, processing, correction, and cataloging of satellite data, eliminating manual tasks after a one-time job setup. The results were significant time and cost savings, with the office now able to effortlessly provide monthly cloudless mosaics of the entire state and customized data for various departments, from forestry to urban planning, all with minimal human intervention.
