A Hexagon Case Study
HAVLAT Präzisionstechnik GmbH, a manufacturer of large, precision components, faced significant challenges with lengthy machine set-up times for their massive workpieces, which could take several hours and compromise overall productivity. To address this, they partnered with vendor Hexagon to implement m&h radio-wave touch probes and the 3D Form Inspect software on their large boring machines.
The solution from Hexagon utilized radio-transmitting probes and sophisticated software to accurately measure and align workpieces directly on the machine. The key software module, Best Fit, allowed the coordinate system to be automatically aligned to the actual position of a roughly clamped part. This innovation reduced set-up times by hours, enabled manufacturing within tolerance, and provided measurement results comparable to a dedicated coordinate measuring machine, leading to faster production and considerable time savings.
