Gasket Manufacturer Delivers Product 16 Weeks Earlier by Reducing Prototype Iterations with Marc FEA Simulations

Interseals Srl, a supplier of gaskets to the automotive industry, faced a challenge in meeting OEM demands for innovative designs. The complex, nonlinear behavior of rubber materials meant their traditional design methods, based on experience, often resulted in multiple costly and time-consuming prototype iterations. Interseals sought a simulation software capable of accurately predicting this behavior to improve their design process and turned to the vendor Hexagon for a solution using the Marc nonlinear finite element analysis software.

Hexagon's Marc software enabled Interseals to accurately simulate gasket performance, including nonlinear, time, and temperature effects. Using Marc and its Mentat pre-processor, engineers were able to perform numerous virtual design iterations, ultimately perfecting a design that was validated with a single physical prototype. This approach saved the company an estimated 10,000 Euros in tooling costs and allowed them to deliver the final product 16 weeks earlier than with their previous methods.
