French aerospace parts manufacturer cuts inspection time by 75% with CMM investment

Figeac Aero, a leading global aerospace parts manufacturer, faced the challenge of inspecting increasingly complex and very large aircraft parts (over 14m) with higher precision while meeting demanding production deadlines. Their existing equipment was too slow and could not measure large parts in a single operation. To address this, they worked with vendor Hexagon to implement a new coordinate measuring machine (CMM), the DELTA OPERA.

Hexagon's solution was a custom 20-meter-long gantry CMM designed for high-speed, accurate, and autonomous inspection. The implementation of this machine, paired with Hexagon's controller and software, reduced Figeac Aero's inspection time for large parts by 75%, from 20 hours down to 5 hours. The machine operates with minimal supervision, running autonomously 50% of the time, which has lowered production costs, improved on-time delivery, and better positioned the company to win new contracts.
