Fluid analysis software helps visualize the unobservable space, shorten development time and demonstrate product mechanism

Murata Machinery, a manufacturer of textile machinery, machine tools, and automated systems, sought to improve its product development process. It faced challenges in visualizing complex airflows in its equipment, reducing the high cost and time associated with physical prototyping, and demonstrating product mechanisms to customers. To address this, the company turned to vendor Hexagon and implemented its Cradle CFD software, specifically the scSTREAM and SC/Tetra solvers.

Hexagon’s fluid analysis solution enabled Murata to simulate unobservable aerodynamic phenomena, drastically cutting development cycles. The use of SC/Tetra’s overset grid function for moving objects and its powerful postprocessor was particularly valuable. This allowed Murata to reduce prototype production for one project from five iterations to just two, significantly shortening development time and lowering costs. Furthermore, Hexagon’s software provided convincing visualizations that were used in successful customer presentations, helping to win business for complex systems like clean room conveyance devices.
