A Hexagon Case Study
Feinmechanik Leipold, a small German production facility specializing in complex components with miniature contours, faced significant challenges with accuracy and process reliability. Their small parts, some with recesses as narrow as 0.3mm, could not be measured by standard touch probes, leading to manual measurement errors, frequent reworking, and a time-consuming process that took 3.5 hours per part.
Hexagon, through its m&h Inprocess Messtechnik GmbH subsidiary, implemented its IRP40.40-LF infrared touch probe with THERMO-LOCK® technology. This solution allowed for mechanical measurement of extremely small contours with low force, eliminating manual errors and the need for a microscope. The result was a dramatic 83.4% increase in productivity, reducing the machining time from 3.5 hours to under 35 minutes and completely eliminating parts rejected due to inaccuracies.
