EPC Chooses Hexagon PPM to Automate Piping Material Management

Saipem S.p.A., a global oil and gas contractor, needed software to automate its complex piping material management process to better connect engineering, fabrication, and construction teams. The challenge involved reducing manual work and rework while efficiently utilizing data from its PDS design system to produce fabrication drawings and manage extensive welding and material tracking.

The solution implemented was Hexagon's Intergraph Spoolgen. This product acted as a bridge, taking data from PDS to automatically generate the required fabrication drawings and reports. For Saipem, the results from Hexagon were dramatic: manual data entry was nearly eliminated, the time to produce data for material and welding management was reduced by 80 percent, and the amount of rework decreased significantly, all while managing over 200,000 welds without manual input.
