Case Study: Deharde achieves faster, more accurate machining with Hexagon m&h 3D Form Inspect

A Hexagon Case Study

Enhanced productivity through measuring on the machine

Deharde Maschinenbau, a German precision manufacturing company, faced a challenge in maintaining micron-level precision while trying to enhance machine productivity and reduce costly rejects. Their manual measurement processes caused significant machine downtime and were prone to errors, which was problematic when working with expensive materials for the aerospace and automotive industries. They partnered with vendor Hexagon and implemented its m&h 3D Form Inspect software with the Best Fit module to perform measurements directly on their machines.

The solution from Hexagon allowed Deharde to inspect workpieces, including complex free-form surfaces, while they were still clamped in their 5-axis machines. This eliminated bottlenecks, reduced in-plant transport, and shortened setup times. The results were significantly enhanced productivity and precision, enabling them to salvage parts that would have previously been rejected. Hexagon's technology provided a low investment with a great return, saving costs and minimizing risk by ensuring parts were correct before they left the machine.
