Efficient powertrain for improved vehicle performance with Adams

D. Y. Patil College of Engineering's student team, Predators, specializes in building all-terrain vehicles. Their challenge was to correct persistent handling issues like understeer and excessive rolling in their vehicle to improve its performance for the BAJA SAE competitions. Seeking to build the lightest and most durable vehicle, they needed a better way to analyze and optimize their design dynamics.

Hexagon provided the team with access to its Adams software, which was used for kinematic and compliance analysis of the front suspension and powertrain. This allowed for extensive simulation and 3D visualization before manufacturing. Using Adams, Hexagon's solution enabled the team to perfectly tune the vehicle's dynamics, leading to a highly efficient powertrain and improved manoeuvrability. The results were exceptional: the team won first place for the lightest vehicle in both the Indian and US competitions, alongside high rankings in acceleration, manoeuvrability, and suspension.
