Edmonton Fire Rescue Services speeds emergency routing with municipal GIS data

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS), a fire and rescue service provider, faced the challenge of improving the speed and accuracy of its emergency dispatch and routing. As a longtime customer of Hexagon's Safety & Infrastructure division, EFRS needed to integrate municipal spatial data into its computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system to optimize workflows and enable interoperability with other public safety organizations.

Hexagon implemented a CAD upgrade for EFRS featuring interoperability tools that integrated data from the city's GIS database. This solution enabled a common operational map view with Alberta Health Services and a "Quick Accept" process that dispatches units faster. According to an EFRS deputy chief, Hexagon's solution shortened response times by at least 30 seconds, helping crews get on scene faster.
