Edgecam halves Hewland Fork cycle time, and slashes tooling costs

Hewland Engineering, a UK-based manufacturer of high-performance gearboxes and transmission systems for motorsport and electric vehicles, faced challenges in maximizing the efficiency of their CNC machining processes. They were long-time users of Edgecam software from Hexagon but were not utilizing it to its full potential, leading to time-consuming programming and high tooling costs.

By implementing Hexagon's Edgecam software more effectively, Hewland Engineering achieved significant improvements. The introduction of advanced strategies like Waveform roughing slashed cycle times; for example, machining a gearbox fork was reduced from 65 minutes to 38 minutes. This also drastically cut tooling costs, increasing the number of parts machined per tool from 3 to 23. These efficiencies, driven by Hexagon's technology, enabled Hewland to offer more competitive prices to its customers.
