ECO FOX Improves Refinery Production Efficiency and Operations with Hexagon Solutions

ECO FOX, a leading Italian biofuel producer, faced a challenge when retrofitting its refinery to improve its glycerin refining process. The project, executed by construction firm OMA S.p.A., involved integrating purchased used equipment into an existing facility with limited space and incomplete documentation, requiring optimized and clash-free designs. To meet this challenge, they turned to vendor Hexagon and its solutions, including CADWorx.

Hexagon's solutions were used to create a complete 3D as-built model from laser scans, which became the basis for all design work. This allowed OMA to design and install 96 new and 30 remodeled pipelines, along with 40 pieces of equipment in a tight space, using tools like CAESAR II to ensure safe, stress-free piping. The technology proved invaluable when it definitively identified a subcontractor's installation error, avoiding significant construction costs for OMA. For ECO FOX, the project accelerated the schedule, minimized rework, optimized production, and provided high-quality as-built documentation for future use.
