Dörr GmbH, a German manufacturer of gauges, fixtures, and custom milled parts, faced production bottlenecks and delays due to time-consuming quality checks on external measuring machines. Their customers increasingly required detailed measurement reports, especially for complex 3D contours, which strained their existing capacity. To address this, they turned to vendor Hexagon and implemented its 3D Form Inspect software to perform measurements directly on their machining centers.
Hexagon's solution allowed Dörr to compare CAD design data with actual workpiece measurements right on the 5-axis machine, eliminating the need to move parts to a separate measuring station. The software automatically generated collision-free probe paths and produced comprehensive inspection reports. This made Dörr significantly more flexible and faster, saving time on setup and transport.
