Digital twins for manufacturing facilities to optimise operations

Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC (JLR) faced significant challenges in renovating its historic manufacturing facilities, which lacked up-to-date records. The company needed to frequently redevelop its properties for new production lines, a process historically plagued by clashes and inefficiencies. To gain control and perform accurate planning, JLR required a detailed digital twin of its existing buildings and sought a solution from Hexagon.

JLR implemented Hexagon's Leica RTC360 laser scanner and Leica Cyclone software to create accurate digital twins in-house. This Hexagon solution enabled the engineering team to perform clash detection and virtual planning, drastically reducing installation errors. The move brought survey capabilities internal, which delivered substantial cost savings and operational efficiencies, with the team able to provide critical survey data within a single day instead of relying on external providers.
