A Hexagon Case Study
De Boer Machines BV, a manufacturer of large production machines for the heavy clay industry, faced challenges with unpredictable distortions in the moulding boxes of its machines. These deviations required extensive manual reworking and resulted in long production lead times, impacting their ability to win contracts. To address this, they worked with vendor Hexagon, utilizing an m&h touch probe and the 3D Form Inspect software to enable precise in-machine measurement.
Hexagon's solution allowed De Boer to measure and log the exact dimensions of each moulding box while it was still clamped in the machining centre. The software performed a target-actual comparison with CAD data and enabled immediate reworking if tolerances were exceeded. This process eliminated manual measurement and adjustment, cutting the production cycle time by one week within just three months of implementation. The archived measurement logs also ensured that identical replacement parts could be produced years later, drastically reducing future repair and adjustment times.
