A Hexagon Case Study
The customer, Daimler AG, faced the challenge of calibrating over 60,000 gauges and setting masters for its engine production with minimal operator influence, requiring a highly accurate and reproducible automated process. To address this, they partnered with vendor Hexagon to implement an automated calibration system based on high-accuracy Leitz measuring machines and QUINDOS software.
Hexagon's solution utilized a pallet storage system and automation software to enable unmanned calibration during night shifts, drastically improving efficiency. The recent addition of a faster Leitz PMM-C machine with 0.4 micrometre accuracy further increased capacity and reduced measuring times by 30%. This allowed Daimler to economically manage the increasing number of gauges and expand automation to new types of setting masters, positioning them optimally for future demands.
