Case Study: Goldwin achieves more breathable high-performance sportswear with Hexagon Cradle CFD

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the Goldwin Case Study

Cradle CFD helps Goldwin and The North Face develop unique high-performance sportswear

Goldwin, a leading Japanese athletic sportswear manufacturer, faced the challenge of optimizing the design of high-performance apparel. To understand the complex air flow and thermal environment around a wearer's body, they needed advanced simulation capabilities to develop a more breathable jacket for their brand partner, The North Face. They turned to Hexagon and implemented their Cradle CFD software, specifically the scFLOW solution, to address this engineering challenge.

Using Hexagon's Cradle CFD, Goldwin created digital models from 3D scans and used motion capture data to simulate arm movements. The software's powerful shape-handling and meshing capabilities allowed them to analyze airflow through sleeve openings, leading to the optimized design of The North Face Spiral Jacket. This solution enabled Goldwin to innovatively design for a previously unattainable level of comfort, resulting in a unique product where air spirals from the cuff to the armpit for superior ventilation.
