Corvaglia Group - Customer Case Study

The Corvaglia Group, a Swiss manufacturer of PET bottle caps and closures, faced a challenge in its toolmaking department. To prevent this area from becoming a bottleneck in its high-volume production process, it needed a way to preset parts for its electrical discharge machining (EDM) equipment without halting the machines. To solve this, Corvaglia implemented a DEA GLOBAL coordinate measuring machine with PC-DMIS EDM Preset & Measure software from vendor Hexagon.

The solution from Hexagon allowed toolsetters to perform presetting away from the production line on the CMM. This enabled the spark erosion machines to run non-stop, significantly increasing throughput. The implementation resulted in a 70% overall increase in throughput for the department, with 15% of that gain directly attributed to the new measuring machine. Additionally, the automated process reduced presetting errors.
