Corporate BIM strategies of an institutional architect office: assisting architectural designs with simulations using “scSTREAM”

Nikken Sekkei Ltd., a leading Japanese architectural design firm, faced the challenge of advancing its use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and meeting growing internal and client demand for environmental performance simulations to visualize and validate unique, energy-efficient designs. They partnered with Hexagon, utilizing its scSTREAM thermo-fluid analysis software as a key solution for these simulations.

The solution implemented by Hexagon enabled Nikken Sekkei’s designers to perform simulations more widely and quickly, using BIM data to analyze thermal and wind environments. A key result was the simulation of the innovative "BIO SKIN" exterior for Sony City Osaki, which quantified a 2°C temperature reduction and helped showcase the design's benefits. This successful application, among over 100 cases handled annually, helped Hexagon's tools become a great advantage for designers, allowing them to visually demonstrate performance to clients and improve design feasibility.
