A Hexagon Case Study
CLAAS Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen GmbH, a major agricultural equipment manufacturer, sought to modernize its production process for measuring a large variety of hydraulic and railing tubes. The company needed a fast, accurate, and contactless system to replace its outdated method of using bending jigs and templates, aiming to improve quality, speed, and eliminate errors. To meet this challenge, they turned to vendor Hexagon and its TubeInspect P16 optical measurement cell.
Hexagon's solution provided a near-automatic, high-speed optical measurement system that seamlessly integrated with CLAAS's design and production workflow. The system's BendingStudio software allowed for direct data upload from design, eliminating manual coordinate entry, and its networked connection to bending machines enabled quick correction data exchange. The results were highly impactful: CLAAS abolished all contour gauges and sample tubes, performs a measurement every seven minutes, and bent approximately 7,000 pipes per day with guaranteed constant quality, making the solution integral to their ISO certification process.
