A Hexagon Case Study
China Motor Corporation, a vehicle manufacturer, faced the significant challenge of meeting Taiwan's increasingly stringent pass-by noise regulations for its small trucks. Their existing simulation process using the boundary element method (BEM) was too slow, taking over 100 hours, and could not accurately simulate the required high-frequency range. To address demanding goals, high costs, and a heavy workload, they turned to vendor Hexagon for a solution using their Actran software.
Hexagon's solution involved implementing Actran's finite element method (FEM) technology, high-performance computing, and adaptive grids. This dramatically reduced simulation times from over 100 hours to just 2 hours for the key frequency range and extended the analysis up to 5000 Hz. The accuracy was also greatly improved, with results now showing only a 0.2 dB error compared to physical measurements. Hexagon further developed a dedicated Workflow Manager tool, helping China Motor Corporation establish a complete and efficient pass-by noise evaluation process.
