Car seat manufacturer cuts costs and improves quality with stamping analysis tool

Adient, a major automotive seat manufacturer, faced challenges in designing lighter seats and optimizing its manufacturability process. Its previous methods for assessing stamping feasibility were unstandardized and relied heavily on individual engineer experience, leading to rework, communication delays, and material waste. To address this, Adient partnered with Hexagon to implement its FORMINGSUITE COSTOPTIMIZER PROFESSIONAL stamping analysis software.

Using Hexagon's solution, Adient gained a data-driven method to perform accurate simulations for issues like splitting and wrinkling. This allowed them to evaluate design changes digitally before production, dramatically improving communication between teams. The results were significant: forming-related problems during production were practically eliminated, over 1,800 feasibility simulations were performed in a single year, and the company saw a substantial reduction in waste and reworks, saving both time and money.
