Case Study: Accsys Engineering Group achieves one-chance demolition scanning accuracy with Hexagon BLK technology

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the Accsys Engineering Group Case Study

BLK technology proves its worth in one-chance scanning application in Africa

Accsys Engineering Group, a specialized BIM and 3D scanning company, was commissioned to scan multiple power plants in Africa slated for demolition. Their challenge was to capture perfectly accurate scan data in a single attempt, as the structures would be destroyed, leaving no opportunity for a second chance. To overcome this, they turned to vendor Hexagon's Leica Geosystems hardware, specifically the handheld BLK2GO and the BLK360 laser scanners.

The solution implemented by Hexagon provided the speed and portability needed to comprehensively scan nearly 20,000 square meters of complex industrial structures. Using the BLK2GO for large areas and the BLK360 for intricate details, Accsys captured all necessary data on the first try. This data was processed in Hexagon's software to create detailed BIM models and an environmental impact report. The results were critical for the client's circular economy goals, enabling them to drastically reduce demolition waste by identifying and recycling materials, improving worksite safety, and saving costs.
