Bilfinger Piping Technologies GmbH, a European market leader in manufacturing large, high-pressure pipes for power plants, faced a significant challenge in ensuring the precise dimensional accuracy of its massive components. To meet the strictest tolerances required for modern power stations, the company needed to move beyond manual measurement methods. They partnered with Hexagon and implemented the MoveInspect portable optical CMM system to perform comprehensive 3D geometric inspections.

Hexagon's solution, which included the MoveInspect system and BendingStudio software, enabled fast, accurate tactile and optical measurements, even for pipes up to 24 meters long. The system streamlined the inspection process, saving time and costs, and provided guided measurement procedures for complex geometries. The results were so successful that Bilfinger Piping Technologies installed a second measuring station, citing the system's ease of use, precision, and potential for future development as key benefits of their partnership with Hexagon.
