Case Study: Bayernwerk achieves unified network management and improved data quality with Hexagon

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the Bayernwerk Netz GmbH Case Study

Bayernwerk Improves Network Management with Unified System

Bayernwerk Netz GmbH, a major German utility serving over 2 million customers, faced a challenge after a merger left it with six disparate geographic information systems (GIS) of mixed data quality. To ensure efficient network management, the company needed to consolidate this data into a single, unified, and high-quality database. Bayernwerk chose to standardize on network model management software from vendor Hexagon to undertake this massive data migration and improvement project.

Hexagon provided the migration tools and carried out the project, which included converting legacy raster data into intelligent vector format. The solution created a centralized database used by 1,400 employees, enabling real-time data access, improved quality control, and mobile capabilities for nearly 600 field technicians. The results include streamlined operations, fewer outages that earned the company a regulatory bonus, and a robust foundation for managing its vast network of 265,000 renewable energy systems. Hexagon’s system is now central to all of Bayernwerk’s planning and operational activities.
