Case Study: BASF achieves smarter site situational awareness with Hexagon

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the BASF Case Study

BASF Antwerp creates digital twin of 600-hectacre site, transforming plant into smart site with shared situational and operational awareness

BASF, the world's largest chemical producer, faced a challenge at its massive Antwerp facility. The site's critical operational data and decades of infrastructure schematics were stored in disconnected systems, making it difficult for teams to visualize assets, coordinate tasks, and ensure employee safety. To create a unified smart site, BASF partnered with Hexagon for a solution.

Hexagon implemented its Luciad portfolio, the foundation of HxGN Smart Sites, to create a dynamic digital twin of the production facility. This provided a common operating picture that integrated data for various roles, from the fire brigade using real-time weather and asset tracking to the finance department reducing cleaning costs. The solution, which grouped data into over 250 themes, significantly improved situational awareness, streamlined processes, and enabled informed, rapid decision-making for both daily operations and safety-critical emergencies.
