Ballerstedt GmbH - Customer Case Study

Ballerstedt GmbH, a plastic-injection moulding company, faced a challenge in manufacturing complex anatomical models for the medical field. Their project required creating moulds with intricate, free-formed surfaces that needed to be perfectly reproducible, a task that seemed impossible with their existing methods. To achieve this, they turned to vendor Hexagon and implemented its m&h probe and 3D Form Inspect software.

The solution from Hexagon allowed Ballerstedt to compare CAD data with the actual workpiece values directly in their machining centre. The software generated measurement programs, performed collision checks, and enabled immediate reworking. This resulted in dramatically shortened touch-up times, perfect reproducibility of complex parts like slides and mould inserts, and a significant increase in productivity. The Head of Tool Production stated the solution quickly paid for itself and that he could "no longer live without measuring in the machine."
