Case Study: Tower International improves stamping tool design and reduces crack risk with Hexagon Marc

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the Tower International Case Study

Automotive supplier uses Marc to improve design of stamping tools

Tower International, an automotive components manufacturer, faced challenges in designing stamping tools to withstand extreme press forces. They needed to accurately evaluate the structural integrity of existing die bolsters and a cracking die shoe to prevent downtime and ensure part quality. They used Marc, a simulation software from Hexagon, to perform this critical analysis.

Hexagon's Marc software enabled Tower's engineers to run precise linear and non-linear simulations. For the die bolster, the analysis confirmed it could handle the new 1000-ton load. For the cracking die shoe, the simulation identified failure points and proved that switching to a ductile iron material would prevent cracking even under increased force, eliminating future downtime and ensuring reliable performance.
