Automatic design analysis for engine components utilizing VB interface

Isuzu Motors Limited, a major manufacturer of commercial vehicles and diesel engines, faced challenges in its engine development process. Stricter emissions regulations and global competition required improved performance and reduced development time. The design engineers at Isuzu sought to reduce the psychological burden and operational errors associated with manual Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis preparation using their existing tool, SC/Tetra from vendor Hexagon's Software Cradle.

The solution utilized the VB interface within Hexagon's SC/Tetra, enabling engineers to create an automation tool. This tool drastically cut the total analysis time by about half. Furthermore, Hexagon's technology allowed for linkage to an optimization tool, automating the entire process from CAD to result evaluation. This provided performance improvements in components like the water jacket in the same amount of time previously required for manual operations, freeing engineers to work on other tasks.
