API Design & Build, an engineer-to-order specialist producing high-end tooling for the aerospace industry, faced a significant challenge with its previous made-to-stock ERP system. The system, inherited from a former parent company, was a poor fit for its bespoke work, making it difficult to track project costs and manage complex, large-scale jobs effectively. This prompted the need for a new manufacturing management solution.

The vendor Hexagon provided its WORKPLAN MES solution, which was implemented to manage the entire production process. The solution allowed for purchase orders to be placed directly against a job, providing immediate cost visibility and enabling accurate budgeting from the start of a project. Additionally, the use of a Hexagon CMM kept critical metrology operations in-house, making the process more efficient, cost-effective, and competitive. As a result, API Design & Build gained full control and visibility over its shopfloor operations and costs.
