A Hexagon Case Study
The B.M.S Institute of Technology and Management, an autonomous engineering college, had a student team seeking to investigate how louvers affect noise transmission for an academic project. The challenge was to efficiently model and analyze sound attenuation across numerous louver configurations, including different angles and coating materials.
Using Hexagon's Actran software, the students simulated the acoustic behavior of various louver setups. Hexagon's solution enabled the team to model complex scenarios and identify that a 90° louver angle and a jute coating provided the best noise mitigation, with a significant 14.97% insertion loss at 90° and a sound pressure level as low as 28.5 dBA in one test case. This project provided the students with valuable simulation experience and resulted in a published research paper.
