A Hexagon Case Study
Alectra Utilities, the second-largest municipally owned electric utility in North America, faced a significant challenge following its formation from a merger. The company inherited four disparate GIS-based network management systems, which created operational inefficiencies, inconsistent data, and hindered internal access to critical asset information. To unify its operations, Alectra turned to vendor Hexagon and its HxGN NetWorks geospatial asset management system to consolidate its legacy infrastructure.
Hexagon's solution involved consolidating the four separate systems into a single, unified HxGN NetWorks implementation. This created one reliable source of location-based information, providing real-time data access and establishing collaborative workflows across the enterprise. The project was completed on time and within budget, resulting in clean, consistent, and easily accessible data for all stakeholders. The successful consolidation decreased overall project risk, simplified licensing and support, and provided a scalable platform for future growth, enabling Alectra to bring a fifth utility into its network model.
