Case Study: Scania achieves faster gearbox and NVH development with Hexagon Adams simulation

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the Scania Case Study

Advanced powertrain dynamic analysis and development using Adams

Scania, a Sweden-based manufacturer of heavy trucks and buses, faced the challenge of a costly and time-consuming prototype-driven design process for its powertrain components. Identifying issues like noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) late in development led to expensive rebuilds and delayed time to market. To address this, Scania partnered with vendor Hexagon to utilize their Adams multibody simulation software for advanced dynamic analysis.

The solution involved creating standardized virtual models to simulate thousands of powertrain design combinations and test scenarios. Hexagon's technology enabled Scania to predict performance and NVH with excellent correlation to physical tests, validating the models. This approach resulted in a 30-40% faster resolution of quality issues and a significant reduction in the number of physical prototypes needed, drastically cutting costs and accelerating product development.
