A Hexagon Case Study
MCG Automotive, a Portugal-based manufacturer of automotive components, faced the challenge of meeting dramatically tighter tolerances and a zero-defect quality strategy for its new high-volume production contracts. Their existing measurement processes were too slow, preventing the quick feedback needed for interventions on the shop floor. To maintain their zero PPM (parts per million) goal, they required a high-speed, automated inspection solution and turned to their long-time vendor, Hexagon.
Hexagon implemented a PartInspect L turnkey measurement cell, which uses high-speed structured light scanning and robotic automation. The solution, powered by familiar PC-DMIS software, provided complete part scans in a fraction of the previous time, reducing measurement from over an hour to under 15 minutes per part. For MCG Automotive, this resulted in the ability to inspect 40 additional parts daily, a dramatic reduction in scrap, and a faster reaction time to production issues. The investment from Hexagon has already paid off, ensuring the customer remains technologically current and meets its stringent quality standards.
