Achieving superb fit and finish on the updated Audi TT

udi, specifically its subsidiary AUDI HUNGARIA Zrt., faced the challenge of maintaining the iconic superb fit and finish, specifically the flush and gap measurements, on the third generation of its Audi TT sports car during the final assembly process at its plant in Hungary. To support its quality assurance, Audi turned to vendor Hexagon and its NEXTSENSE CALIPRI optical measurement systems.

Hexagon implemented a combination of its CALIPRI C12 COBOT systems, which work alongside human operators without safety barriers, and CALIPRI C11 manual inline systems directly on the production line. The major advantage of these systems is the elimination of user influence and the use of uniform evaluation methods, allowing data from different process steps to be compared. This solution enabled the integration of both robotic and manual measurements into a single inspection protocol, which directly supported the realization of the car's iconic design and a superb final fit and finish for the updated Audi TT.
