Case Study: GreenDwell achieves a sustainable, naturally ventilated kindergarten design with Hexagon scSTREAM

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the GreenDwell Case Study

A sustainable award-winning kindergarten by design in Thailand

GreenDwell, an architectural firm in Thailand specializing in sustainable design, faced the challenge of designing a kindergarten in a dense urban environment. The narrow, obstructed site in Bangkok made it difficult to achieve natural ventilation and comfortable lighting through conventional design. To solve this, they used computer simulation software from vendor Hexagon, specifically their Cradle CFD scSTREAM product, to model complex environmental factors.

Using Hexagon's scSTREAM software, GreenDwell ran detailed CFD simulations to analyze wind flow, shading, and thermal comfort. This allowed them to optimize the building's unique "S" shape and incorporate features like a "wind channel" to enhance natural ventilation. The solution minimized the need for HVAC, creating a comfortable, award-winning learning environment. The positive feedback and the project's gold medal award demonstrate the successful outcome achieved with Hexagon's technology.
