Case Study: Tofaş achieves automated vehicle inspection with Hexagon metrology solutions

A Hexagon Case Study

Preview of the Tofaş Case Study

A comprehensive automated inspection system based on laser tracker measurement and advanced 3D scanning is just the beginning at Tofaş

T control processes for vehicle production. The challenge was to move beyond traditional coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) to capture more comprehensive data through non-contact measurement, ensuring stable geometries for their high-volume production of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. To address this, they partnered with vendor Hexagon to implement advanced scanning technology.

Hexagon's solution was a fully automated inspection cell powered by their Absolute Tracker and Leica T-Scan 5 laser measurement systems, using PolyWorks software. This allowed Tofaş to quickly and reliably scan entire vehicle bodies and parts, measuring everything from surfaces to holes. The results were significant, enabling the inspection of thousands of data points and maintaining tight tolerances as low as ±0.4 mm. Impressed by the technology and Hexagon's local support, Tofaş has standardized on their solutions and plans further investments.
