Case Study: STX France achieves integrated ship design efficiency with Hexagon PPM Smart 3D

The new and improved features place the tool as the most advanced and efficient 3D design tool for the whole project lifecycle

STX France, a major French shipbuilder, needed a more integrated design environment to handle the full shipbuilding lifecycle—from basic and detailed design through industrialization and pre-outfitting. After its existing CAD tools reached their limits, STX France turned to Hexagon PPM and Intergraph Smart Yard with Intergraph Smart 3D to improve multi-discipline coordination, reduce errors, and speed up delivery on highly complex vessel projects.

Hexagon PPM worked closely with STX France on co-development and customization of Smart 3D, enhancing capabilities such as complex plate geometry, parametric objects, member positioning, split systems, and other shipbuilding-specific functions. The result was improved design quality, better cross-discipline integration, reduced modification and check-off time, and the confidence to manage a single CAD model from basic design through manufacturing.
