Case Study: Minera Lumina Copper Chile improves engineering information management with Hexagon PPM

A Hexagon PPM Case Study

Preview of the Minera Lumina Copper Chile Case Study

South American mining company implements Hexagon PPM solutions to integrate engineering information from engineering to operations

Minera Lumina Copper Chile (MLCC), the company behind the Caserones copper-molybdenum mine in Chile, needed a better way to capture, integrate, and reuse engineering information from the project phase for operations and maintenance. Working with vendor Hexagon PPM, MLCC aimed to improve information integrity, support regulatory compliance, and enable safer, more efficient operations using SmartPlant Enterprise for Owner Operators (SPO) and related engineering data tools.

Hexagon PPM implemented SPO Core and SPO Operating Plant, supported by VTL, Smart P&ID, Smart Instrumentation, Smart Electrical, and other Hexagon tools, with local partner Pixis handling implementation and training. The solution migrated more than 14,000 documents, 36,000 vendor records, and 20,000 equipment tags, and now manages over 120,000 documents as a central information hub. MLCC reported up to 90% cost savings for engineering design changes, as much as 250% time savings for on-site changes, and reduced plant shutdowns thanks to faster access to accurate, up-to-date information.
