Saipem Uses Intergraph Spoolgen® to See the Big Picture in Fabrication and Construction

Saipem S.p.A., a global oil and gas EPC contractor in Italy, needed to automate its piping material management process across engineering, fabrication yards, and piping assembly. The company was already using Hexagon PPM’s PDS® for isometrics and looked for a way to turn that engineering data into shop drawings and support planning, material tracking, construction management, and weld data handling.

Hexagon PPM implemented Intergraph Spoolgen® as the bridge between engineering, fabrication, and construction, integrated with PDS and Saipem’s legacy systems. The solution centralized isometric and spool data, sharply reduced manual data entry and rework, and cut the time required to produce material management and welding management data by 80 percent. Saipem also managed 11,500 isometrics and 41,500 fabrication spools with no data entry required for more than 200,000 welds.
