Case Study: Kyushu University enhances shipbuilding education with Hexagon PPM design tools

Respected Japanese university complements shipbuilding engineering curriculum with market-leading technology

Kyushu University, specifically its Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Marine Systems Engineering, wanted to give students access to industry-standard ship design tools so they could be better prepared for professional work in shipbuilding. Vendor Hexagon PPM supported this goal through its Education Program, providing software used in the curriculum including Intergraph Smart 3D, Smart Review, and SmartSketch.

Hexagon PPM delivered an education grant and customized the program to fit Kyushu University’s shipbuilding curriculum, allowing students to learn hands-on with the same tools used by professionals. The result was a stronger, more practical education experience that helped students understand concurrent engineering, improve their design skills, and build career readiness; around 15 students per year have been trained on Hexagon solutions since 2009.
