A Hexagon PPM Case Study
OLG Engineering, a UK-based provider of engineering services, was challenged by a major oil refinery to find a solution for a corroded nozzle on a heat exchanger. The owner operator wanted to avoid a costly and time-consuming replacement that would require a plant shutdown. To maintain safety and compliance, OLG needed to perform a detailed fitness-for-service analysis.
Using Hexagon PPM's CAESAR II and NozzlePro software, OLG Engineering created an accurate model of the piping system and performed a local finite element analysis. The solution from Hexagon PPM proved that the loads on the nozzle were lower than initially believed and that the system was still compliant with standards. This allowed the refinery to avoid an unnecessary nozzle exchange and a lengthy shutdown, saving significant time and cost.
