OHL Industrial builds Spain’s largest hydrocarbon terminal in a single project with Hexagon PPM

OHL Industrial, a division of a major international construction group, was contracted to build a large hydrocarbon storage terminal in the port of Algeciras, one of the busiest harbors in Europe. A key challenge was transitioning to new design software, Hexagon PPM's Intergraph Smart 3D, which required extensive user training and customization of its catalogs to meet OHL's specific requirements, putting pressure on the project deadline.

Hexagon PPM provided a suite of integrated solutions including Smart 3D, Smart Materials, and Smart Instrumentation. This enabled high-detail 3D modeling, centralized materials management, and improved interdisciplinary coordination. The results were a successfully completed terminal with a capacity of 403,000 cubic meters, built with full project traceability, improved team management, and minimal construction disruptions. The project was finished after two years with an investment of 130 million euros and was recognized for its high security levels.
